Targeting the same keyword in multiple articles ?

Hey everyone !
I'm working on my amazon affiliate site and had to ask this question.

Lets say i have a website about 'Window AC accessories' and one of the keywords i'm targeting on it is 'Window AC filters'.

I have an article- 'Best window AC filters' on my site targeting the above keyword. This article contains a list of the different filters along with my affiliate links.

I plan to put up another (long) informative article on my website to support the above article. This new article will cover various topics related to window AC filters like: what they are, how to use them, how to clean them etc. The reason behind adding this article is to drive more traffic, add authority to the site and help the 'Best window AC filters' article rank better (as i'll be linking to it from this article).

I also plan to interlink both the articles.

My question is that if i put up the second article on the site, will it compete with my main article for the keyword 'Window AC filters' in the SERPS ? (as both the articles will have the same keywords)

It'd be great if someone could answer my question!

If I were you, I would break that big article into 4-5 articles and post them with a link back to the main keyword.

If you do this it won't compete with each other. Hope this helps

Yes they would. Normally, I would suggest creating only 1 long article targeting the keywords you mentioned (window ac filters and best windows ac filters). These are called LSI. I think.

Each article would rank for separate keywords.

List of top Windows AC Filters

Features of the all new XXXXX AC Filter

etc.

Although they won't compete for each other, interlinking them or placing related articles mentioned on your site would yield top performance.

I guess I'll just split the long article into multiple short ones and then post them on the website.

Although I'm not 100% sure about doing this because i had written the long article in a nice 'guide' like format which would have ranked pretty well on it's own because of it's length and quality. But i don't want it to compete with my money article so i guess i'll just split it up...

If I were you, I would not split the second article; instead I would target my main keyword (Window AC filters) from this article. As my first article already targeting very specific keyword “best window ac filters”.

And if supported articles were needed for the second article, I would search Google and Bing the keyword “Window AC filters” (Not “what they are, how to use them, how to clean” even though those are the thing I have written in the second article) and look for related search terms. With those related search terms /keywords I would post individual articles (If they have enough monthly searches) and link back to my second article to support it.

Or you can just post both article and wait few days. Checking back which article is ranking for which keyword will give you the best answer and you can act accordingly. Don’t worry update existing post is even better for ranking J
