Hey Guys,
This is half a story, half a method - But something worth noting for some
So recently I've been on the struggle with money a little bit, and a started searching through facebook on local groups in my City.
A bloke was reaching out for someone to do his accounts for his construction company as he had completely fallen behind, Within reason of course only go after work you know you can do once you've had a bit of training.
So, I messaged the guy - Told him i'd never done accounting however I am very computer literate, fairly smart and wouldn't have an issue learning and offered to work for him for a price of £9/hour
Currently just finishing off his 2017-2018 accounts and he has offered me to start working on his 2019 accounts which have not yet been started, currently i am using an old excel spread sheet of his - to which tomorrow at our meeting i'll be introducing him to the wonders of quickbooks and will teach him how to use this as its way simpler.
He is also after a website for his business too, and some business cards - the guy is so busy working he hasnt had time to do any of this.
Currently worked over 45 hours on his accounts, with another 40+ hours work on his 2019 accounts as well as charging him for a new website and business cards, we've now got an arrangement where once his quickbooks are set-up he will just post to me the receipts and bank statements for the month and i'll do the rest and just invoice him for the time taken.
What turned out to be a simple job, has now given me a really decent income for the work im doing, as well as learning all of these new valuable skills to which i can now use for businesses to try and get another client and make even more.
Don't be afraid to take on work that you can't do, as long as you know that with training you can definitely do the work.
I was honest with him and told him I didn't know much but would do it cheaper as i learn and he'd also benefit too, and its working out very well for both of us so far.
You'll be suprised at what any of you can do when you just read into it as much as you can, have confidence and good luck!
I'm looking at making just under £1,000, which to me is great considering I'm not very experienced in any of the jobs i've taken on is a rather good turn around - granted I know about photoshop a little bit, as well as using basic web design programs too.
