Taking over a keyword.

Semi-long story, but I've been targeting a keyword for a few years.

First, with my gf's domain.
Then we got married and merged businesses and 301'd to a new domain.
Then we got divorced and I started a new domain, while she used her original.
We left the merged business domain up, because it was ranking #6.

Current situation:
I'm ranking ~#18
she's ranking ~#30
merged site is still #6.

Will we ever be able to get all three of those pages on/near the first page.. or does google see our history, names, etc and make sure only one ranks.

We're setup on different hosting for each domain, different whois, and different business addresses/citations/social medias.

I don't think you have anything to worry about there. Unless maybe if you use the exact same link building strategies on all 3, but even then im not sure. Its an interesting one to be honest and not the kind of thing i have experience with.

Kudo's for making sure business is taken care of even after divorce.

No one can explain the exact reason why Google Doing this.

If all 3 domains are totally unrelated to each other, as you describe them, then why not? You would need to do some extensive link building for all 3 websites, but it is a possibility, although it would make sense just to concentrate on one website, especially if the keyword doesn't have high search volume...
