Tags on wordpress blog posts?

I mean:

on a single blog post I embed schema markup + using 5 or more relevant tags for this post.

I hope this is not seo "overdoing" to get penalize.

Tags are just to organize your post, so you can sort them easier.

I would say that tags have more value in terms of users themselves as they actually help them navigate through the site more easily and they serve as some kind of guidelines to them that give them an opportunity to find more easily related articles and discover more some topic. But in terms of SEO itself, I don't think they have any value or impact and I don't think adding tags to pages will help you rank faster even if you add keywords into them, as keywords more count as a part of tags and meta-tags, but especially in titles and the content, so you should mainly focus on that.

Yes, I use the tag from the post it helps in seo.

Tags are for posts sorting and navigation

I use my tags section just as a container for keywords. At the same time, I have my entire category sitemap blocked from indexing, just not to create some junk search results After all, it all depends on Google what keywords you are ranked for.
