Tags in wordpress

does tags will give u duplicate content on google? i have read many people suggest to no index for tags. hmmm...

i saw many different opinion on this. but keeping your article url as the only source to it article (i mean inner url) in google is essential i think.

Question for people using tags with WP.

I've used them on sites in the past and some now. One site I was using them on though which is a review style site had them on. And my tag pages were out ranking the actually post that I had them on. And G was actually indexing the tag page but not the full post page.

The reason I stopped using them was this because on this site my main goal was to get them to the "review" post. And since G was indexing the tag page alone or the tag page was out ranking the post page it made the person who found my page via search have to click thru to the actually post from the tag page.

And in doing this I noticed conversions dropping. I'd assume because the person had to take more action and click again to get to the full post. Or because some people didn't realize and just assumed the page they landed on was missing content or just plain fucked up.

Curious if anyone else has had this and what they did to still be able to use tags.

Why don't you just setup a cloaker then to redirect that traffic to the page you want?

I've done that with some other sites and continue for sites I turn and burn. But overall have just decided to not use them for my "long-term" sites.

On the contrary, I hide tags and add noindex, nofollow just because they are just meaningless and waste link juice. I also analyzed this on analytics and got big bounce rate (meaning not making any money). Better concentrate that on your post and backlink those instead of leaking to tag pages, IMHO.

I have created my tag pages just to list the Titles of the actual post with non of the content. to prevent duplicate content.

Ill see how these pages rank or if they direct any traffic.
