I've been syndicating posts to a tier 1 network using IFTTT for a couple of months now. The posts are supporting articles for my money pages which most of them contain internal links to money page using exact match anchor. These posts are syndicating in my IFTTT network and every time my articles with the internal link with exact match anchor get syndicated, I get lots of links with that exact match anchor to my money page.
In 2-3 months I built 7~8 supporting posts which have the exact match anchor link. Number of links started increasing in GSC and so did rankings, until my money page disappeared from the SERPs. I waited 2 more months cause I thought maybe it would be fixed with time and nothing changed. Then I deleted all my IFTTT network which contained all my articles with the links, and the page came back in the SERPs.
Was that a Penguin penalty? If so, is there something wrong I'm doing with syndicating? I've been watching some tutorials and this is how they do it too. Should I not use exact match anchors a lot even though it's internal linking? Any help would be appreciated.
