Switching Hosts - Godaddy to Bluehost

I wish I knew ahead of time, but Godaddy has really been sucking big time. I finally have a respectable amount of traffic coming in, but the page load time is horrendous, meaning I'm losing out on sales. I tried getting the dedicated IP, and it almost seemed to get worse.

I have a couple sites on Bluehost, and have found it to be fantastic. I'll probably end up getting a dedicated IP on there as well, just for fun.

My question is how do I do this. I talked to Bluehost Service, but the guy only sent me instructions on how to switch the domain.

I'm keeping the domain at godaddy, as I bought it for 4 years, and know I just need to change the DNS. I need to move the actual site content.

I think all I need to do is copy the databases and download all the "stuff" via ftp, then re-reupload it all to bluehost. I had trouble finding instructions on how to do this, and would love a point in the right direction.

I'm sure it's super easy, I just don't want to screw it up.

you know Engladrm, I tried many times to post an answer here, but since I am too new, it keeps flagging the moderator system. If you don't already have it figured out, PM me and I can help you backing up your db and files.

Wow man, just not the Bluehost...

It sucks! They oversell really badly. 1.000-5.000 live websites per server...

Go with Hostgator or Site5...

Not 100%, but I think you just need to change the name servers, is all.

Any ways if you do want to download the database etc. sign up to hostgator they have fantastic customer service and will guide you through it live

I will recommend to move to powervps, they have been very good for me. It's cost is much more than those shared hosting and companies but it is more reliable.

For backing up instruction:
1. From file manager on GoDaddy, select html on the left, click archive button. This will make a backup on all directoriies (script, images, etc)
2. From phpMyAdmin, select each database you want to backup (just in case, there are more than 1 database). Click Export, choose zip at the bottom. Do this step until all datbase has been exported.
3. From new server, copy backuped archive, extract it via File Manager.
4. Upload all your databases, Import it via phpMyAdmin.
5. Finish.
