Switching a .Blogspot to a real Domain?

So, I have a nice www.name.blogspot.com blog going on. It gets indexed fast, and its got some great original content. There are only about 7 or 8 posts though, and its less than a year old (about 8 months).

I'm thinking about buying "name.com" and then forwarding the Blogspot to it. However, will this change how quickly its getting ranked in the SERPs or the rankings for the keywords?

I was afraid of this as well with one of my first blogspots that got quite successful, but in my experience nothing changed except my rankings improved a bit (when I went from blogspot.com to .com). So definitely go for it.

Go for it. Your ranks can't worsen with a domain. They'll only get better. You'll still be able to visit your blog through name.blogspot.com I'm pretty sure.
So you'll get to keep both domains.
If you don't get to keep name.blogspot.com. Simply create a blog with that domain and have it redirect to your blog.

I'm actually going to purchase a domain as well with bloodspot. The hardest thing for me is deciding what domain I want.

I want my website domain to be perfect, and catchy/easy to remember.

I would be careful of building your site on blogspot. If they don't like you they just delete your blog. Why not using hosting and wordpress ?

Yes, I am getting traffic, but not money. I am not monetizing it at the moment. And probably don't plan on monetizing it as its more of a personal blog.

Okay. I was just thinking that since the blogspot is 8 months old, something might change with a new domain.

Well, you are depending totally on g**gle and they can delete the blog if they think you are violating their TOS. Happened to me and i recovered the blog from backup and moved to use wordpress but the old blog remained long time in serps(with blogspot domain) and made my new wordpress blog as a duplicate content.

I did this with a pinterest-type site recently, had a successful subdomain and purchase the domain through Google Apps. Blogger will automatically 301 each old URL to the new domain, it will just take a couple days for the changes to propagate which kind of sucks but after that everything is smooth sailing.

Give a professional looking theme to your blogger and normally the blogger doesn't help you to have a good rank on the Google rank that's true even though the blogger is owned by Google.But if you are serious about your business,then try to have your own hosting if you want to increase the traffic to the blog.
