So its been all over the news about this new

crazy that i just graduated from the school where it starts (st francis prep) last year. if they would have went to Hawaii as they usually do instead of mexico this wouldn't have happened.

Sorry you contracted swine flu while on the way to the store to get a mask to prevent you from contracting swine flu.

Swine Flu has just been upgraded from level 4 to level 5 by the World Health Organization. Level 5 means "Pandemic Imminent".

Someone on my campus has just been suspected of having swine flu. Not worried still. Hope they close the campus down though.

I'm worried.
So far a toddler died from the swine flu
68 people in the US have the swine flu and being treated
169 people in Mexico died from the flu
It has reached Canada, Germany, and umm.. some other places
lol not a news reporter but definitely following up and paranoid....
Hope this flu goes away or they find some type of medication to prevent it.

the whole issue has been blown completely out of proportion. i got bored earlier... so made a site in 5 mins... ihaveswineflu[dot]info haha

any good ideas on how to monetize it?

We've had some balanced comments about swine flu...BTW, the girl that died in Texas had crossed the border. She was Mexican. Do I think it's real? Yeah...but is it like the media portrays it? I don't think so. Many cities in Mexico have terrible health care and no access to Drs. or good hospitals. Many areas don't have clean water or good sanitation. And in fact, more than 30,000 people die of the flu in the US every year. So why are they not shouting about that? If I was in Mexico I would be telling all my friends to stay home and not go to the U.S....they have a PANDEMIC every year. Anyway, just my view. Wash your hands regularly, stay away from large crowds (if you want to). Eat healthy and keep your immune system functioning correctly. I believe you'll survive this hysteria if you use common sense.

Forgot to mention...having lived in Bolivia for almost 3 years I know what 3rd world health care looks like and it's not pretty. Had a friend that got amoebas there and couldn't get rid of them. When she went to the hospital she had a bad case of the Hershey-squirts and couldn't stay out of the bathroom. The toilet in her room had no seat and hadn't been cleaned in weeks. So, they brought her the equipment to do it herself. Even tho' she was so sick she could barely move. But, that's a story for another time and thread.

Don't believe it for a minute!
I am in Ontario too and have a relative in Health Canada, to date there has been only 7 confirmed cases in the Toronto area. Total to date for Canada has been 14. From what I understand it sounds like they suspect it originated in Mexico.

all i hear on the news is the stupid swine flu... and now there saying its come to Ontairo where i am... they said something like over 60 people died.... altho not worried coz i dont leave the house

There's actually 19 confirmed cases in Canada now. But really, the 'confirmed' amount is meaningless since they've stopped testing people unless their condition is very sever, it takes too many resources. It's best to look at suspected case if you want a more accurate number of swine flu.

Current level of influenza pandemic alert raised from phase 4 to 5
29 April 2009 -- Based on assessment of all available information and following several expert consultations, Dr Margaret Chan, WHO's Director-General raised the current level of influenza pandemic alert from phase 4 to 5. She stated that all countries should immediately activate their pandemic preparedness plans. At this stage, effective and essential measures include heightened surveillance, early detection and treatment of cases, and infection control in all health facilities.

Swine flu is worse than SARS as some of the symptoms are completely undetectable like a person who have no fever might have contracted swine flu...prepare for the worst...

People seem to enjoy the hysteria, they find it exciting.

If you're genuinly scared by this then there's no need to be, there have been very few confirmed deaths and it's been a few days since people started going nuts over this.

Here we go: "so far WHO has confirmed only seven were definitely caused by the virus."

7 deaths!?

So replace our normal january-february flu with the swine flu. Millions are in bed because of the flu. Now how many of these millions would die if it was the swine flu? You make the number.

Why level has been raised? Raise more concern & awareness & preventive measures so we WON'T get the "flu". Hysteric? Absolutely not.
