i dont target brazil. my website is a .com and rarely gets any foreign visitors.
today, i noticed that several users from brazil came to my site within a sort time frame. the ip addresses are very similar.
    for example,
    1:36 pm 65.201.48.5
    1:38 pm 65.201.48.9

I have like 20 of these. I haven't been spamming this site, so i dont think anybody is angry at me.
what's going on? I am just worried i am getting hacked or ddos attacked or something.

Maybe a Brazilian chick that wants you to teach her Samba? :D

Joking aside, don't worry, probably a bot.

it could be someone's scraper. if you were being ddos'd, you'd see alot more than 20 hits.

I would also like to know what "bots" actually do?.. (I am not trolling or joking btw) I genuinely would like to know.

Apart from world domination :D there are many legit uses of harvesting the internet.

For example, Yahoo Site Explorer, Majestic Seo, Open Directory and all that, would not be possible without harvesting everything that moves :)

well they have many different purposes but the most typical one is to index pages into a database, just like googlebot does.
