Survivorship Bias - Why bother?

It's late and I haven't all my thoughts sorted. I'll probably write up a post explaining the intricacies of this factor and how it can be used as a tool rather than a "don't even try" excuse propelled by people to insecure to go for gold.

For now, those familiar with survivorship bias, I would love to know:

What were your first impressions on the subject?

Has it affected your goals and actions in anyway?

Do you believe it should be used as a reason not to attempt something of gravity?

Why bother? Strictly curiosity, but knowing what you do of the concept, you're forever attached to an understanding that most things fall to chance. What makes you get up in the morning (or at night - you night owl) with the confidence that your efforts are or will be worth it?

Again, I'm not trying to be a downer. I'm just collecting my thoughts and those of others on a topic that I think is THE most overlooked factor in one's success and life.
