Suggest best template for Authority site

I am planning to start an Authority site - Suggest best html template for this.
This is going to be a big site , so please suggest me best template based on your experince.
I heard that Wordpress will become slower when the site size increases. SO thinking of a good html template with well seo optimization.
This site has lot of categories and sub categories. And also few product reviews.

This is the case, no matter which route you go. Wordpress or not, CMS or not, when you grow to a certain size, you're going to need a better server to host your content on. Wordpress will be just fine, if your server(s) is/are capable of handling everything.

Yes this is true. But wordpress will be much slower when compared to scripts I heard from few people. I want to know is this true? And want to know from webmasters who are already having big sites , which theme or script is good for seo
 
Any site is slow when it is large and you have a bad host.

I have 'big' sites on both a custom platform and Wordpress. I define big as over 250 unique pages excluding unique pages / links for images.

Wordpress works fine. It is easier to manage and quicker to get started. But for any type of large site, you can't use cruddy re - seller hosting and expect it to be quick.
