Hello,

I just created this account to ask a question so I hope that's not breaking any rules. This is just for my own curiosity and I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere. I have to preface this by saying that I don't make money on IG nor do I plan to, ever. I'm a vaper, build vape coils, and post the pictures (~1K followers). Last week me and a good number of other builders noticed a severe decrease in our likes. It doesn't seem to be post time related, nor hashtag related. Personally, I've noticed ~50% decrease on every post -- others were hit to a lesser extent. We've tried to find out what changed but have come up with nothing. The quality of our content hasn't decreased (subjective, I know). Does anyone here have an idea? Forgot to mention, in the last week I've been reposted by large reposters and have been fairly active through the day. Followers have slowed down as well.

Like I mentioned in the beginning this is just for my own curiosity -- not being able to figure out the cause is driving me nuts.

Same thing has happened to me - and I'm in a completely different niche.

Authentic, original content and my engagement has drastically decreased.

Alongside a decrease in ~350 followers in the past month.

No changes here, maybe just some of your users aren't logging in these days?

You know, that's exactly what I thought and if it was only me I'd believe it. But it's happening to everyone I've talked to. Granted the sample size is only ~10 people but still... EDIT: Just heard back from someone with 15K followers and they are experiencing the same thing so it's not only the little guys.

ya its happening to a lot of accounts, you can check for yourself by looking at the socialblade stats of other accounts. My main went from gaining 2k/day down to 1k/day and i've lost 25% engagement. I think its the new algorithm. I think it started happening end of February to some accounts. Some people are lucky and haven't been affected yet.

my likes also decreased also, used to have 600-800 likes averagely on my 25k account now, it decreased to 300-500... damn frustrating!

It's happened in the past to some of us. Just lay off the robots for 1-2 days, and everything will start coming back to normal.

I have never used bots and I've been affected. Same with bigger 1m+ accounts that have no use for a bot.

This has been affecting me for a little while now - around three weeks. I only have 500~ followers but going from getting 20-30 followers a day, 50-60 likes on each post to getting 5-10 followers a day and not enough likes to go from names to numbers (!) is a pretty big deal I reckon.

I'm thinking it's an algorithm change because it simply can't be a penalization, at least in my case. All original content and absolutely no spam or bot work.

I thought the new algo wasn't in play quite yet?

It's not on any of my timelines I don't think. Anyway, if it is, it seems that you needed to be high engagement before the algo change. But i could be totally wrong.

15k is pretty little but I'm at 40k and my engagement did drop like last month by almost half, a month later i got it back to what it was but idk what the issue is

it's the new algo. some of my accounts have less likes but some have more than usual. Last night I made 3 back to back posts on one of my accounts with same hashtags and similar images and one of them received 33 likes in the first 10 seconds while the 2nd one received only 1. Keep posting with same hashtags and same consistency and it gets better. You need to train the algo :)
