Has anyone has been successful in getting developed a software/script completely outsourced via sites like odesk/elance etc.

After development if you were also able to successfully maintain it for years, please also share that.

Would like to hear some actual experiences and real success stories or are these sites a big shame in the name of outsourced product development and only good for outsourcing cheap robotic human labor in third world countries.

I don't know it might be just me :)

looking forward to hear from fellow members and the community.

    Currently doing an App Development.
Got a contract signed with the freelancer that states that if the following are not met all milestone payments will be reversed.
    The milestones go like this.
    Initial Product-1/4th of total
    Product Release-1/4th
    Bug Fixing-1/4th
    Final touch up-1/4th
and even if we goto say the 4th milestones and it doesnt work out. I will reverse all payments.
I made it clear to the freelancer that I will not pay for an incomplete and disfunctional app.
With these kind of agreements you can protect yourself.
There are tons of devs but its hard to find the good ones.

Thanks for sharing your view, in this case how to make sure that the code quality you are getting is good and the code is maintainable and well documented.

I mean I am aware of this milestone approach, but it usually fails in the 3rd or the 4th round when the freelancer feels am always going out of scope. The issue is he never cleared the scope before starting the project, all they want is to - Lets start sirrrr!!!

End of the day, the project gets screwed lolz.

LOL. True, they just want to start.
Have another dev just to look over the code and ensure the first dev is doing the code cleanly and documenting it properly.
