If you are adding a new product to Amazon with a upc that is not on Amazon already Amazon will give the product an asin after you create it.

Ok, your are creating a new product right? You will need a upc code for the product id. This must be unique on Amazon. It's basically a number from below a barcode. You can either buy these, or what I used to do is look around my home for products with barcodes then I would enter the numbers until one was accepted. Or the other option is to search Amazon for someone else selling the same product and click the button that says sell one like this. Hope this helps.
