I am trying to build an affiliate landing page for a niche (say "cars"). So the page has toyota, honda, bmw and mitsubishi on it. Now the pages link like:

toyotaDOTcarsDOTcom
hondaDOTcarsDOTcom
bmwDOTcarsDOTcom
mitsubishiDOTcarsDOTcom

Therefore I save money on domains. Is there any downside to this over getting a domain name for each one (toyotacarsDOTcom; hondacarsDOTcom)?

You need to make sure your top domain don't get a penalty, if cars dot com gets one all the sub domains will be affected.

I don't think there is any kind of downside of doing this. and its really a great way to save some $.

You could try to get a hosting with add-on domains. This will give you the opportunity to add domains to you current hosting account without having to pay extra for hosting.
I can't post any url so google for 'hosting with unlimited add on domains'.

You will not save meoney on domains but you do have separated sites in case your top domain gets banned.

A good way to save money. I can't really see a downside besides if your domain got penalized. Good luck.

If the emd is still available. I say get those domains. You can easily rank using those domains. If the emd are already taken I think thats the time you use a subdomain. If you are using subdomain make sure you interlink your subdomains to your main domain and vice versa so that the link juice can give boost to your new subdomains.
