I have read some posts here and the moz blog article and still not sure if they are ok. Some say yes, some say no.

I was just thinking that it would be a way to save a little money in the beginning but for the $11 each dont want it to cost me big bucks later on

For example if my main domain was sex (obviously that is not my domain, I am not rich lol) and I wanted other sub-domains such as
latina.sex
blondes.sex
Euro.sex
etc etc etc
instead of having to pay to register each as separate domains.
latinasex
blondessex
etc etc

If I am just starting the main site and the sub domains all at about the same time would it hurt them? Or really wouldn't make a difference either way?

A root domain is better than a subdomain. That said, having a second-rate url is still useful and workable (for example, lots of blogspot site do well) depending on other factors (is the root url traffic-friendly, do you really need to proceed for free at this time, etc).

It really depends on what you are doing with the domain. For example, for simple autoblogs with pictures or short videos one can easily use sub-domains for this kind of thing. For a tube type site though you want something simple that can be easily branded and quickly typed into the address bar, so sub-domains are not such a good option in that situation.

The only other major consideration to look at is that each sub-domain is essentially completely different from the others, so you may have some SEO issues to explore when using sub-domains.

A brandable domain would be the most beneficial to use as you can create subdirectories or simply make subdomains, which would ease the intent to get shut off by search engines.

Having a new domain for each niche would be the best to ensure if one subdirectory or domain goes under, one will stay afloat.

I would only create a subdomain for goat sex. All the others are child's play.
