I want to start (yet another) review site and I am wondering what is best for SEO?

Let's say the site is yetanotherreviewsite.com and I will have reviews of unrelated products like snowmobiles, TV shows, cleaning products...

But I want to brand yetanotherreviewsite.com...

    So is it better...

    keyword.yetanotherreviewsite.com or yetanotherreviewsite.com/keyword ?

Google will treat a subdomain exactly the same as if it were a completely separate website. Subdirectories are treated slightly differently, in that they inherit the reputation of the parent domain. In terms of page rank though, the two options are roughly equivalent. This is the conclusion I've come to after testing things with my own websites, and checking out Matt Cutt's insights on his blog about SEO/webspam with Google.

In real life though, I would suggest there's little difference between the two from an SEO perspective. What matters are the backlinks, not the actual URL so much.

I'd recommend going with the subdirectory option, as it's easier to manage in the long run. If you get a successful site for example, and want to use verified Author Profiles with Google+ to make your site stand out in the search results, you really just want one domain. It would be a nightmare trying to add all those subdomains & get the profile links approved.

BRILLIANT! Thanks guys! I was thinking the exact opposite because I thought the "site" would be a hodgepoge of unrelated information! LOL
