I have a question, I tried looking for the answer but I couldn't get anything clear on the big G.

Does a subdomain rank separately from a root domain.

For example, would blog.somedomain.com rank separately for the same keywords that somedomain.com is ranking for?

Thanks in advance :)

Yes both are treated as independent domains. I have observed it practically

subdomains are treated as different domain in principle.... Anyway why would you want to develop sub-domain and domain for same keyword....

Yes it would be counted as a separate site. A lot of big companies like Yahoo and Google have subdomains. I've heard that it is even better if you host each subdomain on a seperate static IP.

Push the competition down :)

Awesome and yes indeed both are hosted on completely different IP's.

Thanks all!
