Hi Everyone

Im converting my website in to spanish and debating whether to do put this on my website as a subdomain or subfolder. Alternatively setting up on a totally different site.

I know subfolders are better in terms of transferring link juice but question is around crawl budget. I'm assuming putting subfolders in will half my crawl budget on the existing content.. would the same happen on subdomain or would i get roughly double the crawl budget as if it's a totally new site?

thanks

anyone have any ideas? - need to bit the bullet soon. bit worried not gonna lie!

using a subfolder is generally preferable, as it allows link equity to flow more easily between the main site and the language-specific content. It also allows you to consolidate your analytics and reporting in a single location.

But using a subfolder can impact crawl budget, as Google will need to allocate resources to crawl both the existing content and the new language-specific content. This can be particularly problematic if your site is large and/or has a large number of URLs.
