Hello, I am pretty much a novice at SEO, I know some basic stuff, but my main question is..

Would my shop that is on a subdomain rank better if I did a redirect from my root domain rather than using my root domain as just a landing page with minimal content?

My shop has tonnes of products and in turn content, which I understand is a good thing.
My root domain is a simple landing website with basic info, aimed really at getting people to go onto the shop itself more than anything else.

So I feel the site on the root domain may be a waste of space and time.

Should I be just making my root domain redirect straight to the shop in the sub domain, so that search engines are prioritising the shop and its content, or are they already looking at the shop subdomain?

Confused :(

Why don't you just use your main domain as your shop and create a bunch of landing pages? That's how normal people do. Google treats subdomains as different ones, so basically it'll look like a doorway page driving traffic to your shop.

Unfortunately my shop is through a 3rd part and is on their servers, once I used my subdomain I cannot alter it. So I basically messed up at the beginning and now need the best work around I can get to ensure the shop is getting noticed.

Is your store on your subdomain or the third party subdomain? Is it:

yourstore.thirdparty.com
or
yourstore.yourdomain.com

If the later, then they are just hosting your subdomain on their side, they should just be able to use your domain.
