For example my main money page is website.com

And my subdomain is sub.website.com

The content from sub.website.com will rank and affect the ranking of my website.com even though the content is not seen by the regular users and just the crawlers?

I hope that makes sense, let me know if more clarification is needed.

Thread moved.

If it's seen by crawlers, it might be seen by users.
If you set anything to hinder this, it will never rank.

Google treats your main website and your sub domain as separate entities. So yes, they should compete with each other if optimized for similar keywords.

If possible then use website.com/sub structure rather than using a sub domain.

question is why are you even considering using a sub-domain format if you care about ranking? let us know what you want to accomplish, then we can help more.

My theory is, as I have reading some (complicated) academic pdf studies, the reason for using new tld extensions like show, me, tv, one, online and all that...
and using subdomains on your root domain is this;

get a better ctr on search results. So a user is searching for "listbuilding podcast".....
so the chance that the user will clicking on a domain like; mydomain.tv, mydomain, actor, mydomain.fm, mydomain.show or on
podcasts.mydomain.com will be higher.

Or like; podcasts.listagency.com........( a little bit of emd) this domain will standing out of all the others in the search results.
But a user from europe who not use google usa maybe will not see your usa website with com or tv, show, fm or subdmomain with root .com, correct me if I'm wrong about that.

It's all about ctr and centric content, separate yozur different content formats like pdf, guides, podcasts, with your root subdomain or using one of the new tld extensions it can be a better way for seo or getting better ctr; guides.mydomain.com, podcasts.mydomain.com, pdf.mydomain.com
or using a new tld extension for this mydomain.guides, mydomain.fm, mydomain.tv.....

I hope you see that there are multiple new ways of seo/ user experience today, a good ctrr is a sum of having good user experience (in the eyes of google...)

Common use is (example) when you have email marketing service from mailchimp (or others) why they work on subdomain?
For users it's easy to remember your site with; members.mydomain.com, support.mydomain.com....

Tha'ts it, it's not about global seo ranking it's about getting high ctr on G search results, your mydomain.fm or podcasts.mydomain.com will standing out of the rest of com domains...... so the ctr will be a seo ranking factor, a website based on search query who has higher ctr as the others will rank higher.

But when you try to rank on Bing too, then better using a com domain, because B has the most traffic and keyword search volumes based on USA/Canada but not outside, try to setup Bing ads and you will see on their estimator, how low the traffic is outside usa.

It's an elitist method from G of divide and conquer.
There must be a reason why you see raising up prices on all these new tld extensions?

Happy Sunday !
