Seems these days companies will say anything and noobs will believe anything about SEO. I've had some LOLs at stuff on TV and most recently got a LOL from a company saying search engines rank the .us TLD higher in the United States.

You guys get any LOLs lately out of other stupid SEO myths?

Ya, I had a meeting with a company that wanted a Social Media Expert. I told the Marketing guy he should also look into SEO because there was a lot of value with his keywords and not too much competition. He said you can't rank sites for keywords anymore so he's going with Social Media. I showed him some of my sites, even with looking at my rankings for some tough keywords he said it's still not possible.

    Content is king.

    Linkvelocity is important.

    Social signals are important.

    Don't build low quality links.

All 4 are myths that are repeated day in day out by people without any damn clue what they are doing.

    1. .us does rank a bit better for US traffic but it is linked to other factors too.
    2. Content IS king if you actually have visitors and need them to convert, not for SEO alone though. In other words, content is king of conversions but not of SEO.
    3. Link velocity IS important

So who said those, you're simply wrong.

    About myths:
    1. You should do what Google says or you get penalized
    2. If you are whitehat only and do what Google says you won't get penalized
    3. Low quality links are bad
    4. N0f0llow links matter
    5. Google: "Do no evil!" ...rofl
    6. Google: "We do not use analytics or adsense data for ranking purposes"
    7. Google Webmaster Tools is to help webmasters not to let Google sniff your sites
    8. Panda, Penguin, etc. are algorithms about content and text
    9. EMDs are dead/devalued/not worth it
    10. Content that is unreadable and non-unique can't rank.
    11. An octopus can not rank #1 in Google, especially if it is a mad octopus

Link building doesn't work. Google is replacing links with social signals.

I would agree with all those except #6 and #7, I do think G is evil but they have enough data through Chrome and other sources. I highly doubt they seperate and grab data for only the sites that use anyalytics, adsense and webmaster tools and rank them differently with those tools vs site that don't have that data. I think we give them too much credit sometimes but everything else is spot on.

I guess that's why i can send 300 - 400K links on a newly regged domain within 24 hours, because link velocity matters so much! :)
Let's also note we're talking kws in niches most people can just dream off, but yes, link velocity matters alot. /sarcasm off

For how long does that domain rank? If it 's a hit & run I agree, it works - but do your domains stick with their ranks like that?

I don't mean it like that. I mean it more along the lines of if they ever manually inspect your sites to penalize them they will look at all data including analytics and adsense and anything else.

    @DutchTrafficService

It does matter. You have a specific way that you build those links and you are in a specific niche. Link velocity is a multiplier not a signal by itself. That means it only gets combined with other signals you have. Also there are niches that are filled with blackhat and everybody builds thousands of links daily so there it seems it doesn't matter. Esentially you can't think of velocity as building 100000 links in a week, period. You think of it as buildng 100000 links in a week and X, Y, Z, W, etc. factors are <insert list here>. Many links very quickly can kill a site but it can rise another one that has a different combo of factors and signals.
