Stupid technical question about blogs/websites

Hi guys
Just want to ask - what do you use mainly for your websites ?
WP ? Or any other platform
Or you just order your websites to be done by someone?
I'm trying to decide, what is better - to learn making websites myself (zero knowledge, and my sense of design is so bad, that I got a history of one month of futile attempts to design a website on Wix - i just don't see how to make it look good. ) or just pay someone to do it?

wordpress is the best, so many free plugins etc to make your site interesting.
go to wordpress.org and check out themes and plugins for free, also join the official wordpres forum for advice.

WP if you're starting out and don't know what's what. I use my own platform because I enjoy coding. I need to know how and why everything does what it does and I need to know that if I want to put up an automated whatever I can do it in under a day and on my own terms.

WP is not just for beginners, very advanced websites use it from ecommerce to video sharing.

My friend, who is a web designer, told me, that WP is very easy to hack, and difficult to defend... shall I listen to this ? Or its rubbish?

nonsense, if you protect it properly then it's no worse than any other site.

Initially u can start with free WP or Drag & Drop things website builder 0 coding required, after get design idea and idea about WP Plugins.

u can shift to self hosted WP site,

yes WP easy to hack by hackers - but u need to take precautions get good hosting provider, install security plugins, and many more

you already said your friend is a web designer not a hacker

Thats not true, WP aint that easy to hack if you protect it very well... and wp is pretty good to make money with, cos is fast and easy to make websites with it...

Wordpress is pretty good but hey, there are other CMS out there thats cool too, joomla, SMF for forums... they are all a bit easy to use and access but if you looking out to play around with codes or make custom designs then you could take a few courses on codecademy or any other online tutorial and learn HTML, CSS & the rest... i use mostly wordpress cos its the easiest of all, i make website within hours...
