stupid question- What is a proxy?

i dont have a business or whatever. i just wanted to max out at 5000. do i need a proxy for this? and what is a proxy anyway?

A proxy is a computer that takes orders. You can tell it "Hey computer, go fetch me the Amazon website". It then goes to amazon.com, downloads it and sends it to you.

You can then tell it "put 'blueray burner' in the search box". It types blueray burner there and sends you the resulting page.

The proxy may or may not tell amazon it is a proxy and that you sent it. It depends on the settings made by its owner. That is the difference between a not anonymous and an anonymous proxy.
