Stupid question but are Keywords single words?

Sorry for the stupid question. I’ve been lurking the forums to try and find a specific answer but haven’t really found anything clear.

I’ve been doing keywords research and I’m about to buy some links but I need to submit 3 keywords. Are these 3 keywords single words?

So something like cool things to buy would the 3 keywords be “cool” “things” “buy”? Then LSI keywords would be “cool things to buy” “cool things to buy online” “cool sports things to buy”

No. An LSI would be more like "amazing things to purchase online"

"cool things to buy", "cool things to buy online", "cool sports things to buy" are 3 separate keywords. LSI would be "cool gadgets to buy", "cool things to buy for teenagers". LSI Keywords are somewhat related to your main keyword.
