Stuck in position 3

Hey guys

I'm ranking no 3 for a medium competitive KW for my country.

The number 2 is a domain which is a few years older than mine. Decent PA but weak PA. The specific page is ranking due to just 2 high authority backlinks.

Number 1 spot is held by a listing directory that has been around for years. Very high DA but low PA. No backlinks to the page.

I've been building decent links to my homepage with mostly branded KWs but it doesn't seem to move up.

Has anyone encountered this issue and what can I do to increase my chances of hitting number 1?

What's your onpage like for title, H1 etc ?

It's just my own view (I may not be correct - it's just an advice).

You should create two other pages as well on your site and do backlinking for them just link you did for Home Page (not that much but at least those pages too get some authority). After that you should link your Home Page through these two pages with Exact Keyword Match. This may work; I hope.

I include the country that i'm trying to rank for in my H1 or title tag.

I doubt they are using PBNs, they are the biggest directory around hence the acquire links rather naturally.

Just that they have too many individual pages to wanna use PBN for each.
 
have you checked the interlinking of your web pages? It is also important to optimize the internal linking as it creates a lot of impact on the search engine results page.
 
Give social singles and make web 2.0 and blast on web 2.0 or give some edu and gov backlinks i think you should rank
 
find which page is showing in first result. then copy same material and create a new page in your website with same data.
and make some backlinks with your copied page. then you will be in first page
 
Do forum link building, content link building and do social media sharing.
