Structured data, is it easy to learn? Is it effective?

I have been looking around the web and BHW and there doesnt seem to be much out there about it. All the stuff on the web is very advanced and hard to understand.

Can anyone help a noob who has no idea about it but wants to learn?

Why you want to learn? There are many plugins and add ons for this
