Strategy that doesn't really work - as I did it like this

So I downloaded some "funny" video from youtube. Added text "Tag your friend...." on the top of the video and added bit.ly link on the bottom of the video.

After 2 weeks, 700k impressions, 12k comments, 150k engagement, 3k reactions, 3k shares and ONLY 4 people went on that bit.ly link.

So, this way I just wasted the potential of that particular video.

How could it be better:
-Adding a little popup window into the video and actually suggesting folks to go to that link

Purchasing a domain name would most probably help big time. Entice them as to why they should visit your website? (more funny videos, comments)...

Yes, that is a good suggestion. Now I'm not being sad or mad about it, I just wanted to share this experience.
What is pretty interesting is that more than 500000 people saw the link and only 4 of them went there (they needed to rewrite it) but anyway, that number is almost unbelievably low.

I'd agree with Visual Eagle; got to entice the viewers more. Maybe a contest, etc. If it's being used as a specific campaign.

Went from 40 to 470 with just this video and without any other post.

Buy a Domain and link it to your Channel, then make a clickable link POPUP in the video.
