strange seo anomaly

Hello
I wanted to show you something. I have a website about a certain topic. As it is not difficult to guess there is large competition in this subject. But there is a strange anomaly.

some data:

Me: 46k backlinks, PR 3, alexa 150k

Competition: 11k backlinks, PR1 alexa 750k

both same keywords

Both pages have the same cms. So you can see the advantage on my part, but as it is with the majority of queries, competitor site is almost always higher.

How can that be? any suggestions?

Backlinks # and PR ain't a matter but the quality of backlinks is much needed for rankings try analyzing your competitors backlinks using ahref or some other tools

What about the domain age and the quality of backlinks.

Seems pretty obvious to me - their on-page content is better quality

I'll try analyzing their backlinks then, but WebDev may be right as well

Yea, definitely their backlinks could be much more niche specific, and from better domains.
you should get report of all of their backlinks and order them by quality then start to build backlinks to your own site using the best ones - or build new links based on whatever strategy they have been using.

Definitely has to do with the quality / value of your competitor's content.

Check the competitor's on-page seo - keyword density etc. Then check the quality of their backlinks (and your own - are they spammy? niche-relevant? from authoritative sites).

There's nothing you can do about the age of your site, but you might want to work on adding more long-tail search terms to your strategy: if you can outrank your major competitor for many long-tail terms, your major term rankings will improve over time.
