Strange ranks dropping after link building

hi,
I have an old site which was grown in natural way and decide to speed up process by some link building. So i choose a few pages and keywords which already ranking on 30+ positions, and that what happens:
After building links - pages disappears for keywords that i rank for, why is that ?

This is called a Google dance. Give it a 2-3 weeks and your rankings should improve as long as you didn't get penalized.
 
Since you are growing it naturally, this should be a Google dance. Give it some time to settle, hopefully this will be positive.
 
wait for a week or so then continue building the links by drip feed

You are a member for 5 years here and have never seen any of the at least 1000 threads about this topic?

As mentioned already, wait to see the results, it is 100% normal!
 
There is nothing to worry it will be settled! If you were building the quality links.
 
This is normal. Please give it a few more weeks!

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Thats seems strange to me, so if i want to take down 5 my competitors for a few weeks I need to get links to them and I would have those weeks until google will decide where those sites will rank ? :) It doesnt make sense to me as its way too easy to get rid of competitors
 
Yes this I agree with this too. If build 40000 spammy backlinks to a competitor, it would suggest that google would penalise this site and move them down the ranks. Anyone else anything to say on this.
 
It only makes sense that Google filter out spammy links and count only good links which cause Google Dance otherwise everybody will spam out their competitors to death, in this way Google doesnt allow you to manipulate your competitors (40,000 links) will be just filtered out, but if this the case than its still doesnt make sense because we can take them down at least for a few weeks with good links assuming that they will get back stronger in future.

Added: but then why people getting manual action for bad links if Google filters them out ... All those parts "doesnt connect together "

That's called negative seo. And mind you, KARMA moves round and round !
 
Thought i would also chip in my ongoing experience.
I am experiencing the so called google dance. This my first attempt at ranking a website. The site was built on the 1st of Aug. It was indexed by google by the 3rd of Aug. I started building links using mainly contextuals. On the 11th of Aug I had key pheases ranking. Slowly 3 of them have disappeared. I guess I will have to wait a couple of weeks and see if they start to rank again. Patience seems to be required now after reading a ton of articles concerning the famous google dance.
 
Lets pretend that someone from us is Google for example ridersark , and person X creates 40,000 links to two sites for example to RuthSam and markb9876.
So ridersark will think that "RuthSam" is member from 2010 with 721 likes and he has enough authority NOT TO THINK that he will spam to death himself and ridersark will just ignore those links, but then
he will look at markb9876 who is here for not even a month with 0 likes received so ridersark will probably WILL PENALIZE him for those links.

Question: So what would be the middle man when ridersark will not be sure if this man have enough authority to penalize him ? If I would be Google and I am not sure how about authority about this miiddle man I will throw that middle man to supplemental index for some time to see if he will keep building links in that way I will scary him if those links are not natural and he realize that he is out of serp and stop building those links
What do you think ?
 
I've seen 2 explanations as to why keyphrases drop out when link building. 1st is that google reorders the rankings from top to bottom so shakes up first.
2nd is your explanation that it's designed to scare and stop link building. I honestly don't know why it happens. However I am going to drip feed links each day over the next 2 days and see what happens.
