Strange phone calls

Hi bhw members.

I have a quedstion...

Im located at europe and about a week ago all our country's citzens are complaining about strange phone calls. They are located in various of locations. Rings about 1 to 7 sec. and if you pick up, they call you all the fkin time.

The main question is, why they do that? Whats the profit of it? Have you witnessed smthn like that?

You answer they realize your an active real number, then they sell it :)
 
Most probably that (sell it) or try to sell you something :D such random numbers that call are usually some forex scams.

I remember in Slovenija there was a scam for getting "cheaper autoban passes" but when you called that number to ask for it, they let you hang on the call (while getting your bill up like crazy with that number extension).

You think thats the catch? What if they charge enourmus amount of money if its not a prepaid card n stuff.....

Hmmm, interesting.......
Mybe will dig smthn up and try stuff my self, i just thought of that concept itself is kinda illegally attractive :D

If your number is associated with any of your bank account where you have linked with it so they can trace that and hack your account.
So many scams if you receive an unknown number.
 
All these number start with same serious so you can easily catch them.. if you found that number then avoid it.. i mean disconnect the call.. No need to respond them
 
If you search for these numbers on Google, usually you can find results and sometimes the explanation too. There are every kind of scams going on, don't pick it up, don't end the call, just leave it ringing. These are usually calls from outside the called party's country, it's pretty easy to recognize that it's a country code of a different country.

I never pick up any number, which is not in my contacts unless i expect a call from someone, who's not in my contacts already. Although this is not fool-proof either, because half of the phone scams use digit spoofing nowadays.
 
It's all some kinda of health insurance scam here in the U.S. Seems like the same lady voice actor for all of them lol. I don't answer for any NY or LA extensions anymore.
 
install whocalls app on your phone (if its a smartphone)
this calls is normal on my country, most are from telemarketing trying to sell something
 
If you sell drugs or something police calls you to verify and locate phone numbers around you ~ lolz.

this shit was reported as a scam activity. Those scammers just pretending to call people and give them "missing call" alert. When you see a missing call, some will call back to see whoever behind the number or if there is something important. They will charge your phone bill since all those numbers are premium lines
 
It is known that burglars use this technique to check what hours people are at their homes, they keep calling at random hours and when they find a pattern they hit at the specific time.

I dont think that many people have home phones now =/
 
I remember a few years ago in Sweden there were a lot of people who got a phone call where a woman were screaming and crying. I don't know if she also said she was raped, but most of the receivers thought that she was being raped or killed. She hung up after a few seconds, so a lot of people called back.

The woman screaming was a recorded tape and when people called back they received a huge bill for it. So perhaps it's the same with this? When you call back it costs half your bank account.

Thanks for replies and curing my lack of knowlegde.

This stuff had been spoken even on our local tv. If you call back, u got charged big time.....thats painfull actually.
 
You're probably on a dialer list, and when you pick up you are actually in a queue. When they run the dialer to hot, you pick up the phone and they don't have someone that comes on the line quick enough. I'm not sure about Europe, but in the U.S., if you don't have someone on the line with in 2 seconds it's considered illegal. Most dialers are setup to just hang up within 2 seconds if no agent comes on the line during the 2 seconds.

This makes sense. It is very much possible. Someone shared a similar concern here in past.
