I wanted to ask for some advice on an issue I encountered.

I have a few BH campaigns live and noticed something odd on some that are targeting Canada. They have been running for a few weeks, doing great, but then all of a sudden the conversion just tanked drammatically over the past 2 days

So, I started digging. I noticed that over the past two days my referrers were blank on most of the traffic coming from google, around 10% still had the referrer. And one of my settings on the cloak is to block blank referrers, so 90% of the traffic was not getting to my real page, so I changed this thinking okay maybe google no longer sharing this? And then traffic came through but the response rate on the gambling listings were bad, like less than 5% clicked on any of the listings on the real page, was like junk traffic. Like cheap network buy traffic. I feel like Google sent me crap traffic over those two days that weren’t search traffic, even the CPC’s were a lot less than what it’s usually so I’m just puzzled by this. I know the page was showing to this traffic because I have a pixel that fires when it serves, but less than 5% of this traffic clicked. Usually its around 75% that click something. All the IPs were unique too.

I double checked that I didn’t have search partners/display activated and I don’t, I also checked and tested the cloaking, all is 100% well. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I know Google is constantly trying to make us blow money and changing things, so wondering if there is a new setting they secretly did to blow money, as I didnt change anything in the settings.

I have such issue too. Do you have hotjar installed? I ve seen robotic behaviour for many visits there.

That's concerning, wonder how one would approach this and resolve it.

Do you think it's maybe sophisticated click fraud? I see the IPs are mostly in 2, and seconds apart. But they all quite unique

It most likely click fraud from your competitors. Happened to me too, could not find anything to stop it so if you do let me know.

Check your cloaker logs, if its click fraud (as others are saying, which I agree with) you'll see a burst of visitors (20-50) within one minute period, all with different geos/ips/user agents.
yep its that

I am interested in your problem, hope to find a good solution here.
Impossible to find a solution when they using rotating mobile ips, traffic looks legit so no other way of dealing with it. sad but true

there no much u can other than keep tracking on your ad compagine and limit the daily spend.

Maybe when each country requires some form of verification to associate the IPs too from the mobile network companies, yet another layer of complexities. may be the next thing. Surely a point will be reached where IPs are getting blacklisted en masse due to this fraud which will then get the network companies to implement some form of verification as it puts their ISPs at risk

I'm experiencing the same issue. The only solution that worked for me was adding the primary keywords targeted by the bots to the negative keyword list to prevent them from clicking on my ads

Google might have switched to lower-quality traffic. Contact support.
