stopping spammers

hi i notice many spammers in bhw.

most putting urls in thread title or homepage.

can i recommend that newbies are not allowed to put urls in thread title and homepage?

adding this to moderation filters in thread titles and homepage profile for newbies:
*http*
*www*


this should cut down much spam.

I proposed the exact same thing and it seems other members have before me.

They won't do it it seems

Post-data: it's amazing how similar we can think. I was amazed when I was told other members have already proposed it. And now you. Will we have another one post this in the conning months?
 
Post-data 2: The filter should be a little bit more complex, perhaps following the http specification for uris

no offense was was meant i merely replied what ide been told when ide asked same
question in this section in the past, so im only repeating whats been said b4.
i was told wont happen, just report it.
 
I also suggested this before but based on the response I received from @Zwielicht I can understand why they don't do it.

There are already numerous restrictions for newbies on this site, with good reason I might add. Filtering 'http' or 'www' from the thread titles will just create another problem for the mods because threads will be started here to ask why they can't post their thread. They may be just asking a simple question about ssl and naming their thread 'http to https?'

With additional filters in place this will prevent them from asking the question and they won't understand why.

Also as zwielicht pointed out, the spammers will just get smart and use regular thread titles anyway.
 
Maybe I don't spend enough time lurking around the forums, but I rarely see spam threads... the mods must be doing an awesome job clearing them up quickly. The only time I see spam is via comments or newbies boosting post counts.
 
I like the spam, always good to see what others are doing :D
 
I'm very much against keyword filtering.

What if I had a questions about https?
What if I had a question about a www-subdomain?

Also, filtering those keywords doesn't really stop spammers in the long run.

I've been collecting their domains as I delete them for a few weeks, I was going to do a post exposing everything they do for the benefit of our members because it's quite interesting and it's good proof that spam still works.

I don't feel bad about exposing them, they did spam us.
