STOP using Gmail, please

Since Google changed their privacy policy they can essentially do what they want. Service providers that avoid Gmail when discuss link building services/reports are wise to do so. Buyers are smart to request that reports be sent from anything other than Gmail.

people in G are not so straight as they claim to be that's for sure..
Their advertisemtns are displayed in a specific format. They do have a track record of specific websites you have visited.
Eg: I went to amazon for some specific product and then next time google was displaying me all the related ads on other website banners for long time.
Plus there is an option that gmail provides, to open all the links through gmail which is really unnecessary.
Google should not be prying in to peoples' lives and that's what it is doing exactly. Being the biggest company on internet nobody has given it the right to do so.
So if all the things are considered, it is better to stay away from google as much as possible.. though I do not think it will manually check the backlinking services provided by people. As everybody knows we can not keep a website lying and hope to get the visitors.. so the word has to be spreaded about it.. this even google knows. Will google be able to survive without advertising?

so whats another great e-mail to use? the interface and speed are so good, is there anything else out there that comparable?

Of course they collect data G is known to this above and beyond what they're allowed to do, which by using their services they are probably allowed to do in this case.

BUT to believe they have an algorithm advanced enough or are manually reviewing your report of a backlink blast from a service to adversely effect your rankings on your site using that service I would call paranoid. I'm sure a lot of bigger picture stuff and even spam related things probably have relevance in terms of G search I highly doubt that if I sent you a list with 25 backlinks I made to your site you're going to get penalized or in someway have those links that I sent you valued less.

lol sounds evil but you got any proof of that? :P
but sure, its always better to keep it away from google..

Ever notice how the ads which appear in and around your gmails specifically relate to the content of those emails?

'the fuck you think is going on?

Well, if google is using our personal data, then it means the end of google?
Isn't it in their TOS/privacy policy to respect users data?

Yeah, right!

If you believe that I have beachfront property in Nebraska that I'd like to speak with you about.

Just bcz G is the biggest, what makes you think that HM or Y are not also doing the same?

They are but equivocation doesn't change the fact that all of the search engines want it all for themselves and that G is the most evil and I mean "Evil" of the lot!

Yes, they do scan content to advertise every second of our lives but Google still has business to run and I think analyzing their data this deeply would be too risky for their public image and bit too demanding at this point. It's not just IM people that use their mail, there are few personal users and companies (Google Apps - banks etc.) as well. We can still game the google search engine quite easily with backlinks, quite low quality articles and few social posts and now you say they read, understand and make conclusions of your emails/google drive files automatically?

...you say you doubt they have an algorithm "advanced enough."

Well, what about the algorithm they use to crawl, index, and rank sites. I don't see how an algorithm to crawl mail and docs could be more difficult to develop than the the one one they use every day to find out about every iota of info everywhere online. It doesn't make sense to say that Google is not this advanced.

As for whether they want to do this (i.e. crawl your confidential papers), and learn as much as they can about your activities, I have to laugh when I read people saying "no, they don't."

Whether they are concerned with a miniscule number of links, that 's another question...but they do want to know who and what is trying to manipulate their system. Our personal info makes it that much easier for them.

Yep G knows everything...Nothing new to most of you here, but when you send an email/doesn't matter what the topic is/,there are targeted ads flowing around you every time, based on the topic you are speaking about!
So yeah,everything can be tracked,but don't get too paranoid,i would say ..

The word "paranoid" doesn't have any sane usage in a world where one company dominates the flow, analysis, and manipulation of every piece of information available online.

Rather than try to limit, in every way they can, access to their personal info, they dub sensible precaution as some sort of paranoia. This same trusting and complacent attitude has already made Google's empire a veritable" information dictatorship." I want it to be broken up and I want stronger privacy laws passed to help achieve this.

It's very amazing to see some people belive that Google is a good company and they care about privacy of people. I guess, they are either blind Google lover and followers or don't care about their privacy etc.

Here is something to read for them:
Code:
The unredacted FCC report refers to a Google ?design document? written by an engineer who crafted the Street View software to collect so-called payload data, which includes telephone numbers, URLs, passwords, e-mail, text messages, medical records, video and audio files sent over open Wi-Fi networks.
  Source: wired.com/threatlevel/2012/05/google-wifi-fcc-investigation/

I totally back the op , I feel it is not good to use Gmail even i am not using chrome when using my site or updating or any black hat stuff , G is the NO 1 data mining industry in the world . Even stoped using goole doc to open the spread sheet as i am not having Exel i used to heavely relay on google doc to open the spread sheet which contain the back link info now i stopped it and convert it into open office format and use it instead.

so whats another great e-mail to use? the interface and speed are so good, is there anything else out there that comparable?

I second this. All debate on Google's admittedly dubious practices aside, what would someone recommend besides Gmail? And no Yahoo or MSN, please. Those services suck.

Incidentally, the other day I read an article in the newspaper where someone in German filed against Google in order to gain permission to see what information they had collected through their StreetView cars. A year and a half later, he won and got to look. Apparently, during the "drive-bys" (he he), Google "inadvertently" picked up all kinds of unsecured information via wireless networks: pictures, passwords, emails, and other sundry data. According to the article, Google claimed this was the unintended result of some experimental software having been wrongly used in the trucks. In other words, "Oops."

No, I do not much trust Google. I would gladly use a different email service if it were as good. So, any suggestions?

Yeah this has been all over the place lately:

I am not doubting google data mining or algorithmic know-how, I am just doubting the fact that receiving an email from a backlink service to your gmail account will have negative effects on your site. Even on the off chance that it is true, you would be able to use this against competitors by sending fake emails all over the place, so it sounds very highly unlikely.

If you're so paranoid then make your own e-mails using
your domains.

This is a fear mongering thread.

Google would be breaking the law tens of thousands of times in order to get enough data for email mining to make any difference. Do you think they'd jeopardize the trust in their Gmail and other services to mine out email attachments?

A colleague of mine maintained a client link building list shared on G Drive. Yesterday he was locked out of his Google account because he, "violated their tos" The issue was eventually resolved and he got back in, but we never fully understood what caused the hiccup.

Be careful what you put on G Drive. If it needs to be shared just go with dropbox and always keep an updated local copy.

you know what? I'm tired of trying to make people see the sense of what the op is saying. My last comment echoes what many have already said. It's not paranoid to stop using gmail and other google services if you're a blackhatter, but it is smart.

Doing blackhat stuff while using using gmail and docs for link reports is like the bank robber who gave the teller a note written on his own letterhead.
