Stop Ignoring Your Old Blog Posts

Creating new articles takes a lot of effort, but ignoring the old blogs means you are wasting all that work.

One of the strongest ways to help your site grow is to refresh your old content, instead of the constant challenge of creating new content.

Here are three ways to invigorate your old content.
  • Update the facts: Make sure any data, statistics, or dates are completely up to date.
  • Improve the experience: Avoid the large text blocks. Add new images. Remove any broken links.
  • Refine the title: Change the headline to better reflect what people want right now.
Often, the best content comes from blog post updates, and won’t take as much time.

I have a gaming blog, and i need to get a bit better at updating old posts, but some are important to update every week to make sure the latest methods to win in the games is there etc etc, but i know ALOT of people who never even touch their old posts

Some of my old posts are still (after 5 years) top 5 pages with most traffic.

I guess the math behind is reputation and user retention.

The funny thing I have on a website is this dam first post I did 10 years ago. It was the very first article that I published just to see how it looks. 0 optimization, 0 images, 0 interlinking. Yet it's been taking position 1 for years and driving around 10% of the entire website traffic. I swore I will never touch it.

Google is weird and strange.
 
Good advice. I would add that before you create a new article, it’s worth checking if an older post can be expanded or updated first. Often refreshing existing content gives a better return for less effort than starting from scratch.

Updating old articles and internal linking, a lot of people ignore these 2 things.

Updating your articles with new facts and data can do a lot for your SEO. Not every article is evergreen, you can't just post and forget.
 
I am balancing my contant usually 70% new and 30 % if updates. refreshing old posts on google helps recover rankings without starting from zero again.
 
Updating old posts is easier & often gives faster results then creating new ones
 
I am agree with your some points. Updating old content is generally much easier than starting from scratch. I normally publish new content consistently, but every month I make sure to review my old blog posts: update them with latest information, improve internal linking and refresh the content. In many cases, these updates bring better results than writing a brand new article.
 
I try to do both. I publish new content regularly but I also update the old content every week because it already contains some traffic. And updating that old content sometimes performs much better than writing a new article.

Tottaly agree. Refreshing old content is a way to make Google view your blogs as active and having them rank higher.
 
I try to balance both but updating older posts is often my priority Improving pages that already have some rankings can sometimes deliver faster results than publishing brand-new content.

i also agree with this in my experience updating old posts has worked better than constantly publishing new ones even small improvements like refining titles adding updated information and fixing the structure can really revive old pages and gradually improve their rankings
 
weight it more toward refreshing tbh, most sites have a backlog of half decent posts that'd outperform anything new right now
