Everyone who was hit on April 24th by Penguin holds a valuable piece of data about how it operates. The people who will get hit in this next wave also will have valuable data.
If you have sites that weren't hit, and some that were, you hold the best data of anyone. What were the differences in backlinking methods? Right away on April 24th we found out a high number of people using private blog networks were hit. But we could be doing so much more. Penguin was more than a hit on the use of PBNs and other backlinking methods, it's also looking at anchor text. Basically anything off-site. Think of it as a virus that we must avoid, something infecting our honorable quests in SEO.
So on this next round of updates, I just want to encourage people to start threads... make theories about what specifically is being penalized and what is being rewarded... debate it out in the forum. Try to avoid emotion about this, and the SEO End Times prophecies, this is a time when we need to be robotic problem solvers. Even if Penguin is just a PR campaign to scare away BHers and an inconsistent indiscriminate penalty system to give BHers reasons to be afraid, that would be great to know.
G can't publicize or talk in detail about their updates because then people could easily game the system. The algo might be private, but its effects are occurring publicly. It can be studied and we can adapt. The more we share information the better for everyone.
Matt Cutts and his team are our adversaries, but we should be focusing on the algo only, that's what they don't want us to do. And do you think anything makes them happier than to visit BHW (he visits all the main IM forums) and see BHers shitting themselves and calling him a cunt? If we're mad, then he's doing his job well. I wouldn't be surprised if his wage raise system is tied to how many times someone posts the words "Matt Cunts".
