To summarize the whole thing I hired a developer and paid them full amount of $4,300 in milestones between 5 separate payments work was delivered and released milestone. realize the work has so many bugs and developer refused to fix it without extra payment so I opend 2 dispute of $1300 dispute via PayPal i lost the dispute. Now the issue is they deduct the complete $4,300 from developers balance and told him I file another dispute with my credit card which is complety false to top things they added a mysterious negative balance of $567 on my account then banned me. Its unbelievable be careful with them.

Find a developer on BHW that's Jr VIP or above.
 
That sucks to be out that much money. Iv noticed from experience this is a popular tactic of many shady developers on various platforms. Some devs will intentionally leave some things broken that you may not notice right away, or drag out a task far past what it should take to get done. You really have to be careful and be very specific upfront about the details and check things top to bottom before you release payment if your using a platform with a escrow service, Fiverr gig sellers can be really bad about that kind of thing as well. Many are honest and genuinely want to see you satisfied but some will leave things broken or missing intentionally so you will need to keep hiring them for additional gigs as you continue to find things wrong. Another game to watch for is some template selling websites selling broken templates that absolutely cannot be installed by yourself or your own personal dev and require you to hire someone from THEY'RE OWN support team or support forum in order to get it working, I had a nightmare experience with appthemes playing that bs game, selling you a $50 theme that requires a $200 + minimum service afterward to set it up because its intentionally broken, cannot be properly installed by anyone else but them and they're hoping you dont know any better, you live and you learn.
 
Well I would rather go BHW developer that has some history here + PayPal because if they scam you, they lose a very valuable BHW account and you still have a chance to win the case on PayPal.
 
Freelancer is, and always has been, a total pile of shite to be honest. The quality of the devs on there is literally the bottom of the barrel.. poor quality, rush jobs, crappy communication.

Upwork is infinitely better, BHW would be way better too.

Also could come down to how you managed the process. If you're not able to check the code for bugs thoroughly before making payment/confirming then you set the job up all wrong.

Don't let yourself be in that situation.. slow things waaaaaayyyy down.. when they deliver anything make sure you spend like half a week minimum going through everything, meticulously.. make sure they know ahead of time that if you find bugs they fix them within the same budget.. if they don't agree do yourself a favour and give them the hardest boot that you possible can.

Good devs give off the right vibe, they act the right way, they're professionals. Crap, scammy devs give off so many warning signs normally.. pay close attention to who you're hiring and set the project up so that they understand that you're paying for a high quality finished product and nothing less.

Get them to agree to that on record (ie. don't just have this discussion in Skype, do it in BHW chats or Upwork chats)... Anything goes wrong, you don't pay a thing until they solve it.

Ive noticed Fiverr sellers can really be a hit or miss. You could find someone who just finished a HTML class offering his services or someone who has a masters and years of experience and actually knows what their doing
 
im sorry for your lost but i can say that im expert with freelancer i been working with them since 2013 and completed over 270 projects and here my 2 cents when you trying to release milestone freelancer make a popup for you with message says is the job completed and you are ok with the completed work?
if you said yes they will release the milestone and it will be in the freelancer funds and the freelancer have all the rights to withdraw it to his bank account so its all been your fault that you released the milestone before getting the work you want,
and freelancer support team from my experience they are really not great customer support so you can try to call the customer support and ask for super mod to support you and tell him/her the story and they will help you and again im telling you dont ever release milestone before you getting all you work completed 100% and its tested!

Sorry for what you had to go through but Freelancer works great for me. I'm in full control of my funds and can request how many ever revision I want till perfection, before releasing funds. Please check thoroughly next time before releasing funds.
 
i too had bad experience on freelancer platform . i don't know what to say.. They are promoting fraud transition now a days..
 
You cannot put everyone in the same class. There are rotten apples in every basket.
 
I used Freelancer occasionally to work on development that I just didn't have the time to get to. I had some good successes and also some losses. I had a loss of $3,600.00 with a company that had broken down the project into milestones as well.

How did it go wrong if it was broken down into milestones? I wasn't checking the code and compiling for myself. I trusted they knew what they were doing - "trust yet verify". When they were having issues with a couple of features, I figured it would all get straightened out - "first you walk, then you crawl". Before the final two payments, I had mainly only been testing on the Android emulator. I learned that the deep linking between the two was not properly set up in Firebase and the code repo for iOS simulator!

After that I decided to just keep everything in-house since I am more than capable doing it myself. I have yet to have a disappointed client or lose money when I am the one to do it. No more Freelancer for me.
 
You can file a dispute if paid with paypal or chargeback with your CC company.

Problem is we are $40-60/hr on the cheap-end and these guys go bargain hunting looking for a fixed job with endless bug fixes for $4300 which isn't realistic. I had a phone conversation with the CEO of Upwork about this. If you want a job done right, go hourly from the start and build the features you can afford. Fixed rate is effective for small tasks - not massive projects.

As a programmer/developer the tricky part for me is convincing strangers that I am not incompetent and/or shady.

I have been doing contract work on huge projects for big companies the past few years and I can't take it anymore. The bureaucracies impede my ability to create software efficiently and effectively. It's astounding how slow and dragged out their development cycles are. I'm bored out my mind 90% of the time.

I have to take another go at freelancing.
