Static home page or not?

I have a blog and would like your opinion, is it better to have a static homepage or not? Will it rank better if it does? Edit: i want it to rank for two very specific keywords.

A static homepage is a great idea. Basically, it allows you to give your readers a clear idea of what your blog is about. Newbies will want to know what you have to offer before reading your blogs. You can also include a newsletter sign up button and links to your posts.

In fact, a static homepage will most likely attract more people than a default blog page.
 
thank you all. ii am having problem with static homepage with responsive blogger theme. if i select as custom redirect to a page, then it only shows the page without the sliding featured posts etc. Any ideas to get arround this?
 
My competitor has a static homepage that's one giant blog post. It seems to work well for him.

thank you, perhaps we should do the same. So is he just one position above you?
 
If you want to start a narrow nich.. go static page .. If you want to start with big niche and many keyword, pleae try daynamic Page. Thanks

thank you my friend. already swithed to static tonight. I was in static, then switched on dynamic, faced some troubles with my theme and now back to static again. Im kinda old school and static seems to make more sense to me!! :-)
 
For a blog, do you guys recommend a static page with redirect as home page? or a blog post that uses future date so that its always on top of other articles?
 
I am thinking as well to do a custom homepage for my biggest blog; put the most important blog post on the top and categories nicely there.

may i ask how? with static page and custom redirect? or by puting future date to that post, so that it always shows first?

What are you asking??
I am using cloudflare edge servers to store my dynamic WordPress pages as static pages.

Whenever I update the post I manually clear the cloudflare cache to see the changes.
