I am start my first wordpress and I found this theme that I like. The theme is a bit cluttered and I want to remove and change around most of the pages in order to make it look a bit better. I am not sure if this would be a custom widget or whatever.

Since I am having alot of categories I am looking for something such as a drop down menu that can be seen here: hxxp://www.associatedcontent.com/automotive/?cat=27 . If you scroll over the all categories it will show you all the categories. Some other sites have this as well but i like this one a bit better.

These are the most big ones on my to do list. I am not that knowledgeable in coding. Would this be something a person without much coding can do? If not, how much approximately would this cost to hire a person to do this?

If you don't know how to code at all, it would be pretty hard. You can pay someone between $5-$100 to do it, depending on how much you need it changed.

If you know PHP it's pretty easy. You can even make that navbar a widgetized custom sidebar and use CSS to handle the display of the categories. There's more than a way to skin a cat. If you're not familiar with PHP or the WP API might end up giving you big headaches though.

I would like to have a drop down category in the header just like the example on the website. I don't have that much handle on coding, I know some coding but I don't feel like wasting too much time. I will hire someone to do this, about how much am I looking at ($)?

Anything between $20 and $100. Somebody who knows what he is doing can do it in 1 hour or so.

Thank you madoctopus for your reply.

A hand full of people say this is simple. I figuring that with some reading, I can 'maybe' figure out how to change the pages so they wont look so crowd. I have tried 'Google' but maybe i'm typing in the wrong keywords. Could anyone help me in discovering the information needed so I can 'maybe' attempt this before hiring someone.

    Thank In Advance

just go to appearance>menus then drag and drop categories, pages, or custom links. you can nest things to make them 'drop down'

then you just need a theme that plays nicely with menus, which tons of the free ones do right out of the box.
