Hi I am totally new to this. My friend refered me to this site and like I said I am totally new to both this site and the internet marketing. Could someone help me get started? Could you just tell me the basics and if you can help me out a little?
Thanks

Check out the following, as they will both get you moving in the right direction:

GreyWolf's newbie seo guide

http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/198080-basic-search-engine-optimization-practices-newbies.html

and

Harro's making money startup thread

http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/6873-making-money-startup-guide.html

Good luck

harro's guide is way way too old.

@unskilled: What you have to realize is you can't just come on a site, read a guide and make money. It's not going to happen.

You need to decide that you want to run your own online business and commit yourself to a year of hard graft which will include your first 3 months doing nothing but reading/studying, then the next 9 months doing 80% trying things and 20% reading/writing on bhw.

You wouldn't start university and on day 1 of a law degree ask if someone could explain the basics of law to you, would you? Running your own business is no different. You have a lot to learn and a long, hard, but fun road ahead of you.

This is the start of your journey. Go fourth and begin browsing the forum. :-)

@unskilled - I joined this forum July, 2011 and I'm finally getting the terminology, strategies and concepts down. All that was done by reading threads, posting questions and searching the forum when I didn't understand something. You can do it, too. Just take the time to read and absorb the information here. There are a lot of people here with tons of knowledge.

I agree with the fact that Harro's guide is older but still a starting point, to inspire other research and action.

As for the idea of reading for 3 months...why would you want someone to do that?

There are too many techniques that work right now and are solid for real money-earning field use. starting with the basics and making little money and building on that by scaling up efforts is the best way to go, however, actually DOING THE WORK and making money is the best experience.

@unskilled - Find a tactic that works and do it immediately. Sitting on the sidelines and waiting will only leave someone else making all the money while what you know about today may or may not work tomorrow. It is a constantly growing, changing and interactive process. Get in there and get busy.

Start yourself off with something simple, like this post about clickbank someone just put up, it will get you started in low risk affiliate marketing:

Start making a little money and earning while you improve your skills and learn other things as you go long.

Again, get started, as there is no time to waste. If you aren't making the money, someone else it.

@blueturtle -

No offense, blueturtle...just don't want to see another newbie fall to the wayside and still be here buzzing around asking how to make their first dollar. Researching that long will make anyone great at only one thing - researching...less likely effective at making money.

He's COMPLETELY new. If his friend recommended him then he's a newbie among newbies and that's why I recommend he read for 3 months.

If he just jumps into the first method he finds he'll do it 'as-is' and find it doesn't work, get discouraged, then quit.

There's a lot of things you take for granted, aftershock. You've been around for a while so you've probably forgotten quite what it's like to be a complete complete newbie, as in, the "make money at home"/"mom who makes $350/day" crowd.

I also said he should study, there's a big difference between reading and studying.

Nah, I am not saying he shouldn't study, bud.

I am simply saying that for someone to limit themselves by researching, studying, reading without taking any action in the field for 3 months is never going to make them any money and surely setting them up for failure, due to the fact that 3 hours on the internet is a lifetime, much less 3 months.

You know better than that, seriously.

As for the assumption of how I make my money and where my memory is concerned, making income streams of $1000 or less is how all of my clients start out, to learn the ropes, as affiliate marketing is just about the easiest and fastest way to make their first profit income.

They use it to cover their living expenses and replace their day jobs so that they can then properly build, upscale and develop their own company, with practical field experience, as well as evergreen knowledge by doing research and development WHILE making an evergreen income.

Plain and simple...to sit pack and just study/read/research for months on end without any action is insane, as anyone that does that will spend the rest of their life researching to catch up to what is current when they find everything they learned from 3 months ago doesn't work anymore.

Can't live and pay bills on 3 months of study...won't happen.

I'm still in Highschool too ;) Try to learn more about IM in the first few months , then remember to TAKE ACTION . Most people fail without even trying to implement the money-making methods they read.
