Start with search intent and topical authority first mapping a tight keyword cluster, publishing interlinked intent matched pages, and delaying promotion until technical SEO and indexing are good.

I’d focus on one high-value skill, build in public fast, and sell before trying to scale.
I'd ignore broad keywords entirely and focus exclusively on ultra-specific, long-tail queries with clear commercial or problem-solving intent from day one. This builds early topical authority and quicker conversions, rather than chasing vanity traffic that never monetizes. I'd also set up basic email capture immediately, not after gaining traffic.

If you starting from zero focusing on almost entirely on validating a niche before publishing much content. Instead of jumping straight into writing lots of posts or perfecting the design. Use tools like Google Trends and Ahrefs to see what people are actually searching for.

honestly the one i keep coming back to is entity setup. getting your about page, author profiles, and schema sorted in week one makes a real difference to how fast the site builds trust. spent months on a project wondering why nothing was sticking, turned out the site looked like a ghost to crawlers.
also second the email capture point above, but i'd go further and plan the monetization path before writing a single post. content strategy looks very different when you know what you're actually selling.

I always found it easier to map out a few core pages and clusters on paper first so I don’t end up patching holes later. I also like to test the niche with a handful of quick posts and see what picks up before going all in. Social traffic can help a bit early on, but I usually keep it light so I don’t push signals before the site feels solid.
I would takes more time to plan out my topical clusters prior to actually writing. it was not always a planned process for me now, starting off organised saves me from a lot of trouble.
