Starting Blog advices needed

I think I am creating this thread in the correct category

Yesterday one friend of mine said to me: Hey I have a friend that is working with blogs, and he wants to help me with making niche blogs by giving me keywords and domain ideas so I can register and start writing... can you please help me from where to start?

After a few minutes of talking, he basically wants to start niche blogs with ads (he created an AdSense account) so all he wants is some example from where to start. Should that be a regular blog, what kind of structure should be that site, etc...

So I am asking you guys and gals, is there any in-depth thread for this kind of stuff on BHW? Maybe in the Jurney Discussion forum, there is some great example that I don't know.

He is a good English writer (not bad like me lol), I am not sure if he knows how to write SEO articles, but I know that those articles that he will write will be well-written articles with good info for the people.

As @RealDaddy suggested in one post, it is better to start a blog that is based on your interest and passion. In this way, you can go far ahead.

I'll start by suggesting that you/your friend find something you enjoy to blog about. Doing so will prevent you from getting burned out easily & keep the writing topics flowing.

Next up after deciding your niche, you're gonna want to pick a domain name. You'll want something:

- Easy to memorize/remember.
- Almost catchy.
- Brandable.

After deciding your domain name, you'll want hosting. Hosting is essentially your electricity. It keeps everything visible & functioning. Hosting comapnies:

- Hostinger.
- Hostgator.
- Bluehost.

You'll want to pick a hosting plan with access to cPanel. Most cPanel nowadays have access to Wordpress installation software, the easiest to use & customize blog platform.

Once Wordpress has been installed, you'll want to pick a theme. Most people go with GeneratePress as it's light-weight & very easy to customize. It also has pre-made templates here: https://generatepress.com/site-library/

He could use Ezoic if he doesn't like Adsense.

Assuming you're already targeting the "right niches, " the best advice I can give you is to try reverse engineering your competitors.

When you're just starting a blog, you don't know what keywords to target or what contextual keywords to go after.

You may not even have an idea as to what types of content would work in your niche.

Should you write articles? Should you write glossaries? Buyer's guides? Resource lists?

I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

There are so many ways you can go with your new blog.

It's very confusing, and you may be tempted to publish content that "feels right" to produce.

But in reality, nobody wants to read your stuff because that's not what they're searching for.

This is part of the reason 95% of blogs fail, according to The New York Times.

If you don't want your new blog to be one of these statistics, I suggest you reverse engineer your competitors.

Here's a broad framework on how to do that:

First, find keywords related to your niche using the Google Keyword Planner tool.

Second, enter these keywords into Google, find the top results, strip them based on domain, study the domains, and ensure they are not general sites such as Forbes, Fortune Inc., or Chron.

They must be niche-specific sites.

Next is to enter the domain names into paid SEO tools like Ahrefs or Semrush, and you will get a list of keywords they are currently ranking for.

Filter those keywords based on search volume and difficulty.

Once the keywords are filtered, enter the keywords one by one into Google and pay attention to the results you get.

Note the probable intent behind every keyword.

Of all the results you're getting, what is the intent most of these results are targeting?

Once you've filtered your keyword based on search intent, the next step is to enter your keyword into a content optimization tool like Frase or Postpace.

These tools are great for finding contextual keywords and additional questions or sub-topics you should cover in your article.

At this point, you have everything you need to start writing, but when it comes to writing, you must focus on blasting your competition out of the water.

How do you do that? Your content must be comprehensive, up-to-date, and easier to read.

Don't write long sentences and convoluted paragraphs because nobody has the time for that.

Also, make sure your content is easier to read.

Remember that most people are on mobile phones so they don't have time to read long posts or blocky texts.

If you present your content like that, you will surely lose your ranking because you'll scare people off.

It also helps tremendously if you have pictures or videos relevant to your content.

The key is to come up with comprehensive content.

In other words, your visitors would have spared themselves the hassle of going through many search results to select the pieces of different information that are already in your post.

Finally, you have to write engagingly.

Your writing must have some personality so you can build a community around your blog.

This is how you stand out. Is it easy? Of course, not. Is it quick? Are you kidding me? Is it worth it? You bet.
