Hello everyone. I would like to start a proxy business from scratch but I dont know much about the ins and outs of this.
I want to start this at a small scale at first , maybe having around 100 residential IP pool from different countries all together.
How can I do this ? What type of tech equipment I will need ?
What will be the cost of investment to start such a business ?
I have a budget of around 3.000$ , do you think it is possible to start a small proxy business with this amount of money ?

In your case, I would simply resell.
Determine the kind of proxies you wanna sell (mobile 4g, residential static or rotating etc).
Find a good provider with quality IPs
that's not overly expensive.
Ensure your provider has an API documentation supporting API integration.
Create a site for your reselling purpose.
Integrate via API (you can hire a freelancer to do this for you if you're not a programmer)

In your case, I would simply resell.
Thank you I know this would be the most simple option but I am really passionate about tech in general and I would love to start a business that is 100% independent and that I have total control over it

Perfect, but what you're asking is capital-intensive. A lot. Passion alone isn't enough, you gotta be able to code and understand a shitload of jargons for this option to work for you, and it will take some time given the U-learning curve.

I understand , thank you for your answer if there is a more technical approach about it on this forum I would really appreciate if you can guide me towards it because I am really interested to learn.

Hello,

Being a proxy provider that offers their own product stack across lines like Datacenter, ISP and Residential bandwidth is very difficult and capital intensive if you are starting from scratch.

The complexity of each product is in the order mentioned above with datacenter proxies being by far the easiest and cheapest product-stack to get started while setting up ISP infrastructure yourself will likely atleast have a base cost of $5,000 a month just in bandwidth and circuit bills while creating your own peer residential network will likely run into hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, if you are doing things ethically and legally - which you should! These costs can be further escalated by the complexitity of your configuration based on endless variables i.e how many ASNs do you want? Do you want your own ASN? How many locations do you offer? and so on.

Along with all these costs you also need a breadth of knowledge about industry specific parts of the business like hosting, sysadmin, software and networking as well as the general things required by any business like HR skills, basic accounting and so on.

That being said, it isn't impossible and there are a lot of companies which generate substantial business while purchasing services from vertically integrated providers like ourselves to reduce complexity and start-up running costs. We provide these kind of services to numerous other operators and they can be as simple as offering them fully ready proxies to resell or infrastructure services like residential hosting on one of our ISP circuits.

We are also launching a reseller API within the next three months which will allow other businesses to resell all our products including Datacenter, ISP and Residential without any start-up costs and minimal integration. The API will allow reselling of residential bandwidth, Static ISP proxies in USA, UK, DE and FR as well as datacenter proxies plus the features below:
  • HTTP / SOCKS5
  • User / Password Change
  • Logging / Observability
  • Plan Edits / Add Proxies
  • Multi-Sub User Management
  • Restrict Sub Users to Specific Services
This and other similar solutions are likely a great place to start for anyone wanting to start up a business in the industry and grow from there. It isn't easy but it is a great industry to work in and if you do give it a go my advice would be to work hard, read about networking principles like BGP and stay scrappy!

If you're interesting in our reselling API you can go ahead and register interest at [email protected] and we'll let you know once it is ready for launch.

Cheers,

As mentioned earlier, it would be better to arbitrage in your case
Aim for at least 10-20% profit margin

Thank you guys ,@Ping_Proxies now I really understand the depths of it. I did not expect it to require such a large budget. I assume my best bet is to resell after all

As a mobile proxy provider, I have started with 2 broken phones (display cracked) and 2 sims that's it. And it's a nice business now, fully automated, hundreds of clients. I do have my own software provider, which is not that public, and you need to dig deeper to find it, but in essence you can find lots of other providers for the software that sells for less than 200-300$ per month, unlimited devices. Just start learning and you will find resources. The people that are trying to sell hardware that costs thousands of k's, just stay away. You need phones and a software to create the proxy on the phones, focus on that. The rest will follow by itself.
You can easily do this, you don't need that budget though. You just need some hardware and a software to manage those.. most of the providers offers scripts to generate the proxy servers but I would suggest to have a software as you have to manage those servers too.

You need these:

1) Proxy Server

  • Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (4GB)
  • Raspberry Pi power adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Raspberry Pi cooling fan
  • 32GB SD card (or larger)

2) USB Hub

  • Orico IH10P or IH20P USB Hub with its own power supply

3) Wi-Fi Dongles

  • Unlocked and modified Huawei E3372h or E8372h dongles with Hilink
  • Unlocked dongles: Unlocked dongles are dongles that give you the freedom to switch between network providers as much as you want. And not locked to a single network providers
  • Modified Dongles: Certain data plans such as unlimited data plans of network providers are locked for mobile phones. Modified dongles bypass it as mobile phones utilize unlimited data plans from network providers.
Then at last you need a software to manage the Proxies, for the software solution you can check my signature.
First of all, you're not allowed to sell outside marketplace!
