Hello everyone,

Hope you all are well today.

Well, as some of you may know, I am someone who is very passionate about the worse thing in the world: politics. :D

I am not here to discuss if Barack Obama sucks or if he is good. Haha.

I know a lot about politics and am someone who checks up on the news often. I am a big ranter too. LOL. As a result of this, I thought that maybe maybe making a blog would be awesome to help me making some money using Adsense. I tried to look for political affiliates even though I doubted there were some. I was right. I mean what is there to make an affiliate for in regards to politics? So I thought Adsense would be a better pick.

I have a domain name. Only problem is that it does not end in a .com. I did find it in a .us though. But after reading this, I think that it might be better if I just made a blogger on it since Google likes it a lot more. I would be able to update with around 2 or 3 (passionately written) articles a day. I plan on covering more than just the president.

What do you all suggest? Blogger with adsense? My own domain and hosting? Thanks everyone!

blogger is quiquer and better ranked. I sow this on my own. But is possible others to have other experiences.
That was mine and i think that i was not so good to promote my own domain.

political blogs do nothing (this is from my experience). in total, i made $20 with adsense but if i had to do it again, i would go to one of those shirt sites and make one with funny political humor and sell it on my site.

good luck with your blog (unless you are a democrat ;) )

Your own domain and hosting is my preference. Hosting only costs a few dollars a month, should be pretty manageable. You have a lot more freedom with self-hosted WP, lots of plugins and things you can do.

Any site can make money, but you gotta be able to pull it lots of traffic first. Direct advertising is one way to go but only when you're really popular. Adsense is a good place to start I guess.... but don't expect to make a lot of money.... :)

My suggestion is for you to piggyback the current political news (preferably scandals and gossip)... You will get traffic from the search alone...Just make sure you update it a lot since it politics can change fast... BTW, this is quite close with the method that Pofecker gave to BHW members using the Google Trends...

Unfortunately, monetization would be difficult... Apart of adsense, I only can think about building an e-mail list BUT how would you monetize this e-mail list? I don't have any idea on this one...

I suggest that before buying own domain and hosting, you should try this idea on a free blog platform... In case your idea sucks, you can drop the idea and do other more productive things...

Regards

I would go with your own domain and run wordpress, install some SEO plug ins and spiders will love your blog, good luck with it, I've never had any experiecnce with this kind of niche, so I have no idea what the niche is like, how easy/hard it is to get traffic, how much you can earn per click on adsense etc.

Good luck once again :)

Politics is an okay niche. Not much way I've found to monetize it other than Adsense and the clicks don't pay much in my experience. Most political blogs become news blogs as it brings in more long term traffic. Its hard to get a lot of traffic with just politics unless you build a great reputation as a political analyst.

From my experience political blogs are cyclical. For about 3 months every 2 years you'll see nice CPC's with adsense, leading into election day, but the rest of the time it's pennies at best.

Adding Amazon helps if you take the time to plug books your visitors would read. You just have to know which side your visitors are on and match it. But even still, you're just looking at a few cents here and there with a book sale from Amazon.

If you get creative you can find spurts of cash here and there. For example, the blog I was involved with leaned towards moderate liberals so for a while we did okay with the water for gas and solar home power products from clickbank.

The problem with those is they're popularity comes in spurts. They'll be hot for a short while, maybe after being talked about on 60 Minutes or something like that, but then the interest dies fast, so you always have to be looking for something new.

It's a tough niche to monetize, but easy to build traffic in since controversy is built-in and draws visitors.

Wow.
Everyone thank you so much!

I am going to go ahead and make it regardless because I am very passionate about politics. So I guess Adsense is the only way. I was thinking about making it on a self hosted domain. But lean toward blogger.

I think it could be popular because people are more scared than ever.

You say you "know a lot about politics". What does that mean? You watch the news? For this kind of blog to do well I think you're going to have to add something more than just watching the news and ranting about Barry and Joe.

For instance, can you make it funny enough for repeat visitors? Or maybe you're a "numbers guy" who can crunch economic data and offer insight? In other words, where's your hook?
