Starting a music blog in 2018?

Hey all!

Currently I’m thinking about starting a music blog. This blog would feature new music. I have a background as a radio host, so I have a talent for finding new music first :-). The good thing is I also work at some web stations where we could collaborate. Writing is no problem either, as I am a professional copywriter.

The music will be embedded from YouTube and Soundcloud, to be completely legal.

My idea for monetizing would be affiliating with Apple Music/iTunes for actually downloading the track, adding ads..

Would it be something good in 2018 and the years coming? And would it be better to focus on my own country (the Netherlands), or global?

it's a good niche, will always be popular. very easy on social media, especially new, undiscovered artists. Go for it!!!!!
 
It's a good idea if you KNOW FOR SURE there's an active community on Reddit / FB groups or other platforms that would love to see your links
 
i think if you are ready for advertising your site and everything it will be good :)
 
I think if you will promote it correctly, it can work. Otherwise it will be just a waste of time.
 
Sure this will works in 2018. Make it original because original content is must to rank higher in search engine, as you are a content copy writer you can do this perfectly. Open a special page for your blog on every social media networks and start sharing relevant information from the blog and interesting facts and more. If you are actively engaged with social media you will get good number of share and like.
 
OP great idea, I am thinking of doing the same for a "specific music category" which I am listening to. Though I don't have a clue how to monetize that with affiliate products.

If Apple Music/iTunes or Spotify and more do have affiliate products then this is could actually be possible.
 
I think it could work,but make some of the music free to download to get people interested.And yes make it a global thing not justthe netherlands
 
Its my niche so if your down to network with each other let me know...I own a music blog/brand myself as well...I got alot of artist I personally deal with daily
 
you have a good idea, and music is a good niche to be honest but you have to be careful about copyright, downloads,ect
