Starting a clothing brand.

I would plan on designing my own t-shirts to start with and get a professional printing company to create a batch.

They would send me this batch (of say 50 tees) and i would sell through my website. As the company grows i would look into stocking my clothing to local shops. I would also produce sweaters, hoodies, hats and sunglasses.

I would use social networking sites to gain traffic and to create a fan base.

The problem i have at the moment is creating the site with the online store. I have searched long and hard over google and BHW but cant seem to find anything suitable for my clothing brand. There are online shops such as bigcartel etc. I have also looked into Magento which could be a possibility, however i would like to ask the people of BHW on their thoughts. I'm not experienced in the field of web design and do not know html, css,etc.

Anyway guys, i havent come up with designs, logo, name etc just want to see if this is actually worth doing. Would love to get some feedback...

if you`re asking yourself if it is worth it...
...you are not set to go.

if you want to do it - really...
...do it.

it isn`t that complicated - don`t get stuck at thinking years about the theme to use etc. you can still change it whenever you want.
get your stuff in line, hook yourself up with a printing-company and get going.
otherwise this will always remain something you wanted to do.

I would love to have my own clothing brand it's just i want to do some research before i spend lots of time on the design side.
 
I would agree with Halilovic-Squad 100%

You will have the entire life to change it, but getting started is the trick.

Your market will tell you what it wants after you start making them.
 
Can anyone help me on the e-commerce side of the clothing brand?
 
i am in the clothing industry i design and produce them. for the website i am using opencart really happy with it.

Probably your best best would be to find a professional web designer and explain your needs to him, and he will be able to find the best ecommerce solution for you, as there are plenty of different software to choose from.
 
try buy t-shirt graphic design from famous artist designer. copy method from DropDead cloth and more creative marketing
 
Magento may be tricky if it's your first website, try a third party e-commerce platform where you don't code but have an easy to use back end.

Start branding now as that is something you can do straight away, build a following on Facebook, twitter and even Pinterest( depends on target market)

Tshirts seem like a saturated market but if you can come up with something original it can work.

I have seen a guy on facebook without any websites could get his own clothing design rolling out (based on popular anime, games, movies, manga). checkout this facebook for reference

Setting up your own brand is hard especially you want to design your own clothes as well and you can't tell if the trends like them or not. do you have a physical store? if this is the starting of everything then I can tell you that it is very very difficult and costly to setup an online store like this

A customised magento, or open cart surely have something you need to setup a standard store, but it will not satisfy your requirements for a standard clothing store like above.

maybe starting small on facebook/pinterest/tumblr and publishing your design to see how is the reaction before set up a real online store...
 
Please stop posting here, you clearly don't know what you are talking about. I currently design, own and successfully run my own clothing line. It is all online, we are in the process of switching to shopify. Now if you were wondering why I told you that you don't know what you are talking about, spreadshirt is probably the most basic way to start a clothing "brand", all you do is upload the design and they do everything else. It truly isn't a brand, just a store to sell your designs.

It will take some time until you really take off, if in fact you do. If you have solid designs and a market you are passionate about you will have success, but that is all up to you. You could have designs you think are great but others think are shit, it is just the nature of the game.

Please OP please.
If you do this, invest a lot of money into getting proper materials for your clothes.
Noone wants to buy a $10 shirt that fits on you like a square.
Don't focus on what goes on the shirts, (colors designs) etc etc
But focus on the material and shape of the shirt. Making it unique.

This is coming from a consumer.

A lot of oriole pole start off with big cartel and spread the word about it on forums and websites and I think from there based off the feedback that's where you should start doing bigger things
 
yeah you cant go wrong with big cartel...once you see success from there then you will know where to move or matter fact people will start contacting you , but at the same time dont wait for nobody.
