Starting a Blog, or should I?

I've been tossing around the idea of starting up a blog for awhile now. The problem is I don't really understand how all the SEO and backlink stuff works. I'm more of a "I enjoy writing, and writing often" type of person. Awhile back I tried a worldpress.com blog, and posted on a few forums just to see if people would be interested in what I have to say. The niche was Sports, and Entertainment (movies, music, ect.) -- I was getting a couple thousand views a week with only a few postings and the bare minimum of promoting. So it really got me thinking that I could make a real blog work.

Anyways, my question for everyone is this: Should I start from scratch with my own blog, or should I buy a blog that's for sale, and continue building the foundation that it has already started? Buying one for sale seems like a safer option since it would give me a start, instead of not even knowing how to start. I appreciate those who take their time to answer.

If you actually like to blog and write all posts yourself, you will have a great blog. Most people here try to make a successful blog by leeching content from other sources, if you write genuine content every week you will have lots of visitors. If you can find a good blog to buy related to the niche you write in, do it. If not, just buy a domain, set up wordpress and start writing!

Good luck!

You better start writing and manage your blog first. You will learn and gain many experience about "how to manage a blog". However, if you don't have time you can outsource it to other people.

Why bother buying something that you can build on your own, especially considering you enjoy writing?

Read this forum a bunch, but don't get paralyzed by information overload. Take notes and use the search function when you see something that you don't quite understand. There is a wealth of knowledge, but you might have to dig a bit to find it.

i was going to start a blog and found a good niche but i decided to go with making money with a hosting reseller account

if you have a niche or hobby you like to talk about, and there's something for sale, grab it

otherwise you're best off starting your own.

personal advice: set a posting schedule (3 posts a week, whatever) and start writing for 2 months before launching.

This way 1) you'll be in the habit of writing regularly 2) you'll have backup material for when you get busy with other projects

If you use wordpress, get jeff johnsons free traffic getting plugin from his website.

It's good if you do not know about SEO. Just install it and it will tell you which other plugins to get.

SEO is simple on a blog, especially when you have your permalinks sorted, xml sitemap etc etc.

Just get that plugin, follow the instructions and you will be seo'd pretty good. Then you can take it further from this good starting point.

Also, as the person above me stated, have content lined up. I would say that spending 2 months on it 1st is overkill.

You could easily sort out your blog content for a month in advance in a day, 2 days easily if you look at this way.

IE. Accept that 2 days a month are for content and get into it.

Alright well thanks for the advice. Starting next week I'm going to find a good web domain and host, and start from scratch. I'm hoping that it doesn't take too long to get decent traffic.

I think as long as your really educated within the niche you will have always something to write about. Now if you are thinking about buying one do some research on whether you think its good.

go ahead.. when ever you face any problem...
jump back to this forum... you find all questions already answered....

unique content is more effective than autoblogging, so you will have success with interesting posts - > more followers -> ads - > money :)
You just need a little pr on other resourses to attract people
