Started a Wordpress, why are people spamming it?

cool, thanks for clearing that up for me! appreciate the all the feedback and anti-spam advice!

Opinions are different about the value of nofollow links. Many here say "a link is a link".

This is what G writes about it:
In general, we don't follow them. This means that Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web. However, the target pages may still appear in our index if other sites link to them without using nofollow, or if the URLs are submitted to Google in a Sitemap. Also, it's important to note that other search engines may handle nofollow in slightly different ways.

On the other side, the vast number of (nofollow wordpress) links might be still a good means for G to rank a page. I would not swear that G omits nofollows, but it is really hard to say.

That's very accurate, so definitely to get also bing and yahoo ranks just make links

I undertake the tedious task of deleting 100+ comments each day from each blog I have from my email inbox as a result of wasteful SB blasts. I did have to laugh the other day though as I saw one of my own SB comments being used to spam one of my sites! Bloody cheek I thought and then I realised I had in fact spammed my own blog!

Still, all my blogs are quality sites non of which are auto approved therefore at least I know my own comments won't get through.....

Remove "powered by wordpress" and change all the text next to comment form and they won't find you. Of course, now it's too late because your blog is already in your lists.

I spit on ur uselessness. Removing powered by wordpress won't help you very much lol. That is merely 1/100 different footprints that people use to search for wordpress blogs.

He will have to go through every line of code and remove any templated text that is generic across all wordpress blogs and each different version will have different template text. I mean he can try that..... or just get off his ass and install akismet. :|

Just turn off the comment to email function... there is a little tick box that will solve your problem...

Dude, send me your URL and I will keep it off my spam list.. lol jk

Its pretty normal getting spammed from link hungry link builders..
You can:
1) Install Akismet (Will not solve the problem but will make it less)
2) Put a captcha (Will even bring the chances of spam lower)
OR
3) Disable Comments
4) Moderated comments were you will have to accept them urself before approving.

I've got question... is there any plugin which allows disabling the comments on some defined pages? I can't find no working plugin for 3.1 and don't want to edit code everytime I will upgrade, so hope someone knows where to get any working comments blocking plugin.

That's the nature of Wordpress blogs :) Use Akismet and you can reduce your headache by 90%. Just a simple solution...

Well... I think askimet doesn't have this feature to disable comments from any page or post I want, or does it?
Please can you suggest plugin that disable page/post comments?

Thanks
