I'm looking to start an apparel company, that offers t-shirts and custom athletic shoes. I was wondering if anyone knew where i could find a good manufacture and drop shipper.

I just need a good starting point, like what to look for and what to search for when you are looking for companies that deal with manufacturing products and drop shipping companies.

If you want to look for manufacturers I think it's best to contact your local trade associations or check out the yellowpages.

well i own a clothing line that does pretty well and is in 9 diff retailers. Plus we do a lot of webstore orders as well. Pm me with any specific questions you might have, Im pretty busy so try and keep the questions more basic if possible, but let me know.
 
As far as direct manufacturers go, I recommend Tru-Test International @ http://www.trutestinternational.com. They are in Pakistan. They worked with me, and from what they tell me, they work with a lot of boutique and well-known brands. I had them make some leather bags for me (my design), but they also do screen printing and all kinds of other stuff.
 
What I want to know is how to find unique really good punky designs of clothing like Lip service?
AS I FIND IT REALLY HARD TO FIND UNIQUE DESIGNS
 
I have always designed my own. I am considering starting a MMA line but the start up is out outrageous.
 
I was looking for something similar. Have been using cafepress for ages just because its free, but the markup and directprint is shit. Everything i have found so far hasn't really been cost-effective when i am definitely taking a risk trying to put new stuff out there. The last thing i want is to be sitting on a ton of clothing that no one wants to buy.

I was going to set up a lingerie shop in Tokyo but lot of hurdles to do that ad also terribly expensive especially in Shibuya area which woule be ideal ahh

I have my own clothing line and I needed a few grand to start it up. In my opinion IM is much more profitable for the time and effort put into. It is a pain in the ass when a certain design sells a load of XL and your left with the rest of the sizes and reorder minimum is still 250. You have to know your market well and manage your inventory accordingly.

If you have a lot of time on your hands with not that much start up capital I suggest getting a silk screen station and do everything yourself. With everyhing equal my ROI on IM is 500-1000% better than my clothing business. But hey look at TapouT they are banking big time.
 
My partner and I have just ordered a t-shirt printing machine and we hope to be offering the services you guys are looking for by the end of the month.

I'll post again in this thread when we are up and running. We will be offering "one at a time printing" like CafePress but at a MUCH better price. We won't have all the features and options they have, but if you are looking for shirts I think we will have what you need. We are also looking into a drop-shipping fulfillment service but will be taking slow steps to insure we don't get screwed.

Fair warning though: We won't be able to print on black shirts for a while until we get it figured out, but we will be running with white shirts VERY SOON.

I'll try to keep you posted.
 
I did have a guy doing printing for me in exchange for some design work i did for him, but it didnt pan out as well as i would have liked. If i were to pick up 250 pieces, my big concern is approaching buyers at retail stores. I have no idea how that works.

@BlackBeret, let me know when you get it going! cafepress has an insane markup. i am sure they are making money hand over fist, but in the meantime, i make shit from them.

Being a architecture student I was always
interested in these stuff. I am still actively
looking for manufacturing hookups especially
in turkey, since most high quality works
come from there ( all italian big names outsource
there. From Armani to Zegna, you will find a big
chunk of their merch coming out of Turkey) I look
forward to seeing this thread blossom into a
goldmine of info for the people with a vision to make
a lot of dough making good clothes.

250 min? It says that that's their ideal. i know for a fact that they will even do 50-100.
